Inspiring Shanghai stands out as a collection of essays that delve into the unique essence of Shanghai as a global city and a nexus between China and the world. The book is meticulously divided into five chapters, each providing a different lens through which to view the city: from the perspectives of high-ranking Chinese officials, officials and international diplomats, financial and economic experts, cultural and creative minds, and educators and sinologists.

The project spans 29 essays, featuring contributions from 12 different nationalities, truly embodying the international spirit of Shanghai. Adding to its global appeal, the book is published in three languages: Chinese, English, and French, reflecting the cosmopolitan nature of the city. The book's design, crafted by renowned Italian designer Paolo Tassinari, further enhances its allure.

David Gosset emphasized the multifaceted nature of Shanghai. He pointed out that while Shanghai is recognized as an economic powerhouse, it is also a world city of great cultural significance, always at the forefront of innovation and creativity. Inspiring Shanghai is more than just a book; it is a tribute to the city's dynamic spirit and a testament to its role as a global metropolis. The launch event at Villa Basset not only marked the release of an important work but also celebrated Shanghai's enduring allure and its pivotal role in bridging diverse cultures and perspectives.
